What is KREIS?

KREIS is a research project in Germany subsidised by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF –Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung). KREIS develops and researches innovative concepts and technologies for utility supply and waste disposal in urban space based on an inner-city residential development in Hamburg. KREIS stands for the linking of regenerative energy production to innovative wastewater engineering in cities in order to generate electricity and heat from water and biogas.

Who is KREIS?

Six academic institutions and four interdisciplinary partners in industry participate in the KREIS project. Their joint aim is to accompany implementation of the HamburgWaterCycle in a new residential area by the name of Jenfelder Au over a period of three years. As a transdisciplinary research network, KREIS unites ecology, economics, sociology and practice.
